Well you can tell that the track has recently been extended, because there is that long straight section at the end between the tower and the cliff face, which wouldn't make much sense if you were still designing the track from scratch. You'd just have a more shallow grade up to the cave.

So when you are texturing these models, are you using a separate texture for each? or are you using the same texture but positioned differently, and a separate 'grunge' layer to quote your post? Actually that would be even easier in real time. Thing is though, that would be a long time to be out of control of your character. Its a very long pipe!
