I don't know whether anyone else has given much thought to this question, but I was wondering what people's expectations for the title of the final game are.
I've given it quite a bit of thought since I first started tracking this project, and have personally concluded that there are several obvious choices to choose from, some of which may be more desirable than others.
- RealRiven - The single most obvious title, given its place in the series, it inevitably conjures up associations with Cyan's official game RealMyst. I personally find it a bit of a tongue-twister, however.
- RealRiven: The Sequel to RealMyst - Same as above except it also ties in the original games sub-title ("Riven: The Sequel to Myst"), possibly sparking nostalgia for older players. It seems a bit of a mouthful, however.
- Starry Expanse - A little more controversial, this title retains the identity of the long-lasting project that led to that box in the store, and the community involvement in supporting it. However, it doesn't bring Riven instantly to mind, which might be a significant detractor.
- Starry Expanse: Riven Remastered - A little less obvious of an example, perhaps, but when I mulled over the other titles that came into my head and the best parts of each, this is what came to mind. It has the benefit of referencing both the nature of the game itself and the long community haul to make it playable. It has a nice grandiose effect, similar to the official "Masterpiece Edition" titles, but the meaning of the entire phrase is clear. My only concern is that it's also a bit of a mouthful, if sweeter than the others.
Don't worry, your vote's not permanent, you can change it later if you change your mind. ;>
